CarlOmaha Valued Member United States 181 Posts	Posted 03/13/2019 1:13 pm I'm wondering about the desirability of this type of condition. I have taken photos with varying light in order to try and capture the tone and colors. I picked out this Mint Set especially for the odd toning of this 1971-S penny. The Halves, quarters, nickels and dimes have a frosted/satin look to them. Overall, disappointing looking Mint Set, but this penny was unusual and did not match the condition of the other pennies in the set. Report this Post to the Staff

I like it. Some of the Proofs I've been dealing with recently have very splotchy toning. Not such a fan. Mostly a green-brown from a distance. There is a bit of wood grain to it, as well. Could this feature be on the original planchit? Report this Post to the Staff

Anyone have a good image of one? I wonder if a woody Proof planchet would pass inspection. Or am I deranged to think they get looked at that thoroughly? This came from a Mint Set with the green-yellow-brown toning and a kind of wood grain affect and I found it rather pretty. Report this Post to the Staff
