I have a 2005 D Lincoln Cent that I can't tell if it's damaged or is an error. It's hard to get a good clear pic on my phone, but on the reverse side, the copper coating in missing in the center and to me doesn't look worn off. Same with some spots on the face side. I'm no pro though. Error or damage? Thanks

Not an error, just damage on both sides. PMD
It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin
and no way that damage happened at that time.

Reverse appears to have been deliberately ground down.

Coinfrog- yea it does, the reason it struck me odd was that it looks too precisely damaged to be from wear and tear. Maybe someone, for some odd reason ground on it?

Now that I look at it, I can picture a bored kid scraping on it with a pocket knife.

Also I wonder if it's from some kind of corrosion, some of the letters with the missing copper are inset into the metal instead of protruding.
