The best way to spot a large date from a small one, in my opinion, is to observe the curvature of the 2 in addition to the size of the 8. If the 8 appears bloated and the 2 is straight, it's a LD variety; if the 8 is better aligned with the 9 and the 2 is curved, it's a SD variety.

Additionally, 3 grams (Specifially 3.11) denotes a copper cent, whereas 2.5 indicates zinc. All varieties of 1982 cents are very common, rarely are they sold for more than face value unless in MS condition.
Now if you had a copper 1983 laying around, (because there actually exist copper varieties of that date too, though quite rare) then that might make you some money.
