Randomly I decide to go through the spare change in my car and I came across a 1982 D penny. I looked up online and I found some interesting variations to discover that it could be worth some money but I am very new to Collecting and do not know what this is. The scale I have does grams, but not to decimals. It came in at 3g and due to the condition, I believe it's copper. I think it might be small date. Either way, what would this coin be worth? And how/where would I go about selling it?

Thank you!!

to CCF. Looks like a large date copper. Where are you seeing possible errors?

Just looks like a regular LD. Not much value.
As John1 stated , please indicate what you think is an error.
Then we can get a better idea of what your seeing.

The best way to spot a large date from a small one, in my opinion, is to observe the curvature of the 2 in addition to the size of the 8. If the 8 appears bloated and the 2 is straight, it's a LD variety; if the 8 is better aligned with the 9 and the 2 is curved, it's a SD variety.

Additionally, 3 grams (Specifially 3.11) denotes a copper cent, whereas 2.5 indicates zinc. All varieties of 1982 cents are very common, rarely are they sold for more than face value unless in MS condition.

Now if you had a copper 1983 laying around, (because there actually exist copper varieties of that date too, though quite rare) then that might make you some money.

Thank you all for the great reply's! I can see now that it's a large date. The 2 definitely gives it away. As far as errors go, I'm very new to all of this and have a hard time understanding what doubling is. But I read about an error of a large earlobe on Abe? But I don't think anything is there. I appreciate all of your guys' time!

Still a decent condition coin. I'd keep it if I were you.
