Finally added this to my regular-issue FRBN set this weekend. Although the print run was the second lowest at 1M (Dallas was the lowest), it may not have been fully released since the price of the SF note is disproportionately high in the upper grades.

This shows crisp paper, great embossing and broad margins all around. Happy to own it!

I've always felt that the small FRBNs are the least-collected of modern issues - can't even drum up much interest with one of the toughest notes in the series!

Thanks - I'm really not fishing for compliments, but would like to inspire further conversation on this low-key series.

FRBN were released in two batches - 1933 and 1943. All of the scarcer types were in the original issue in 1933. When they were issued is just as important as how many were printed when it comes to scarcity for FRBN.

You would be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive article about FRBNs than the recently featured story in the SPMC magazine, Paper Money. Written by Loftus, Yakes and Huntoon it covers absolutely everything about the series 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Notes. It has it all, dates, serial numbers, history, overview & purpose and some behind the scenes insight what it was like at the time.

According to the data, that wonderful example belonging to MrFrog is part of the early disbursements (1933-34). The WWII batch of San Francisco $10s fell between serials L00600001A - L01080000A.

I think it's an underrated series, but I just can't get into them. But I do appreciate a nice note when I see it though.

lettow - So you're suggesting that most of the SF note were released early, resulting in their relative scarcity?

Stever - Would you reference the issue, please. I only recently renewed a dormant subscription () but now have access to back issues. Thanks.

I know it's a hastily-produced, uninspiring design, but there are many sleepers among both the regular issues and (especially) the stars. But I'm sure that was true 50 years ago.

Nice pickup. I have a collection of the 1929 stars, which also appear under-appreciated.
