Despite being thrown in with the "junk" by a dealer, and thus able to be purchased for about melt, I thought this specimen was in fact considerably better than average for the type....

You are correct but coin has been cleaned . Still a nice pickup at melt . Reverse looks AU-Details , obverse looks EF-Details with a problem with the LI & Y in LIBERTY .
