I'm pretty new at this, but I have been learning a lot in the past few weeks. I have tried to learn what I can on my own and not end up asking a question that is posted a few times a week by beginners, but nothing I have learned so far help when I saw this 2019 penny. It's got very little shin and seems to have a thumb print or cloth pattern over the surface. It looks like an old discolored penny, but it cant be more than a week old. Can anyone explain this and educate me a bit?
Thanks a bunch in advance!

to CCF. It kinda looks harshly cleaned. A copper cent that has been cleaned or dipped in vinegar takes on a pinkish hue.

@CBW, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that it looks like it has been exposed to a chemical or the environment and has started to change color despite its young age. That could be a fingerprint for sure on the back.

that a chemical exposure/cleaning can cause a cent to take on that pink hue.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have come across a few of these as well.

Craftedbyweirdos,

Any die clash marks going on this coin?
By rim off shoulder
Above and north of LIBERTY looks like a slanted "E"

EDIT: and of course to CCF.

Hi,

Thanks for the info on the harsh cleaning with vinegar. about 2 week ago I picked a $25 box of pennies from the bank & at least 25% had that pink hue. I was still able to send them through a coin machine once I had found all the good ones including 15 wheat cents & a couple of dimes thrown in that I spent.

To CCF! This was caused by Post Strike Damage ( PSD). It happened after it left the U.S. Mint.
