Hello All,

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a large collection of some really, really nice, high end items. Among these was this $2 Education Silver Certificate.

I know almost nothing about these, and I'd love some information. Beyond general information, I'm super stumped on value. I've seen what appears to be a very similar example on ebay for ~$350 or so, but another on HA that sold for $10k+...

I'm clueless...

Worth noting, it's not a super clean cut on (obverse) left side.

PS - Sorry for the bad pics!

I've seen this note depicted on BEP souvenir cards. Some reprints have been trimmed from the card, submitted, encapsulated and noted as such. I'm certain that the original plate was used on the souvenir cards. The newer BEP souvenir cards have the word COPY printed in red on the note, the older examples don't.

Could you remove it from the sleeve (glare) and photograph the entire engraving?

As Steve pointed out this is not a real proof but an item cut from a souvenir card. Examples have sold on ebay for anywhere from $5.00-12.00.

The majority of iconic face proofs that I've seen have been printed on India paper and then mounted on card stock. Some even have annotations and/or dates written in the border.
