Hello,I'm new here and know absolutely nothing about coins and values but always liked old coins so to my question can someone please tell me why my 1890 Indian Head penny is as shiny as a dime? And I see no mint mark also it looks like maybe a faint gold coloring around the edge? I also have a 1901 Indian Head penny that's in pretty good shape...any help with info and or value would be greatly appreciated because its driving me nuts not knowing anything about them...thank you for any and all information...my name is Jason btw

Welcome to the Forum. You've come to a phenomenal place to share and learn.

Pure speculation here without photos to reference: It could be that the IHC was plated with a silver metal at some type. Tin, mercury and nickel are a few that come to mind. Plating copper coins was a common classroom science experiment back in the day.

Edit: Here's some information on what color your 1890 IHC should be and how to grade the second one you asked about.
