I have two one-ounce .999 silver coins from the Republic of Chad. I just noticed that one, the 2017 Deathstalker Scorpion, claims its is worth 500 Francs CFA. The other is the 2018 Mandala Lion that shows its face value as 5000 Francs CFA.

Inflation can't be that much out of control in Chad, can it? Anybody know what that's about?

Perhaps they changed the face value of the coin in 2018? Chinese gold pandas did that in 2016 -- the face value of comparable weight coins increased by a factor of 4-5x.

It looks like $1 is about 500 cfa. So 5000 cfa seems really high for a 1 oz coin. These are made by Scottsdale, so maybe they made another typo. But all the big animal ones are 5000. Maybe Chad doesn't really redeem them if you brought them in.

One thing is clear, they don't like scorpions!

These values mean very little as these are non circulationg coins sold to collectors and bullion investors.
