My husband came home with this copy coin he got from a friend. We researched online and read that most, if not all of the copies contain 50-97% real gold. I'm hoping someone can tell me if that is true and whether it has any value to it. Please and thank you.

I would love for you to copy and paste the reference which states the gold content of this "copy."

@brooke, I don't have an answer to your question, but I bet you could find out if there is a substantive amount of gold (as opposed to gold plating) by bringing this to your local pawn shop.

Thanks. Well, that is almost exactly half the normal weight. For reference, a copper-nickel clad Ike is just a little bigger (38.5mm) and weighs just a little more (22.7g). I don't believe your coin contains any gold except maybe a thin plating. The best way to find out would be to take it to a pawn shop, coin dealer or jewelry store that can test it. Given that it is an obvious copy, you could also scratch the edge to see if you can reveal an underlying base metal.
Also, if it's magnetic, then it's no good.

@spruette, I thought that the edge pics showed scratches with the underlying color being the same. Maybe not?

Oh yeah! I forgot about the magnet test. I did try the scratch test and, like Spence said, as far as I can tell it all looks the same. But I Just tried the magnet test and it didn't stick even a little!

Even if there is some gold in it, it would be a hard coin to sell.
