This popped up a little while ago on vcoins. I researched it and had my suspicions confirmed by a friend . It is a very rare coin of Titus as Caesar with Secvritas seated on the reverse. This coin is sometimes confused with the much more common Pax seated reverse. On FAC in my friend's description he mentions that the way to tell it is Secvritas is if the arm is raised. On the Pax denarii an arm is extended with a branch.

This coin is not in BMC or RSC. There is a record for it on OCRE with 0 examples given. There are none on Coryssa or Acsearch. (There is one example each but they are pax types and not Secvritas). There are 0 on CNG. It is also not on wildwinds.

One example is referenced in the new RIC II. It was sold by Lanz in 1999. There is no plate for this coin.

Imho the portrait is great. The coin obvious has a few problems but with coins this rare you have to take what you can get.

Another rarity checked off of the list - how many are there to go before you'll have to leave the Julio-Claudians behind?

I often wonder how Zurqieh cleans their coins...they often have this interesting lichen like finish. It looks like that light stuff might need to be dealt with. With the length of Zurqieh's postage period, it might be possible to see if it has progressed when it eventually arrives!

I don't think I will ever exhaust the rarities found in the 12 Caesars period in my lifetime. Rarity itself is in fact common in this period. In other words there are many rarities from this time.

As for the coin. Yes, I will deal with it as soon as it is received.

Nice pick-up. Looks like some wisps of beard left on the portrait.

Thanks for the heads ups on the seller guys. However, I know about his practices and I bought anyway. I am aware of just 2 other examples of this coin that exist. When coins are this rare one must make adjustments to expectations if one wants the coin. The same regards condition. If I waited for a better example it may not happen in my lifetime. I would rather have the coin than not.
