Previously found a copper Small Date (Philly) to my surprise was told they are quite common :/ though l only managed to find One small date among at least 30 large date coppers in a 50 roll box of Lincolns. Anyhow, research has brought to my understanding that the DENVER minted 1982 small date is the one to look for,....and this one has caught my interest, it seems to me a Small Date though I'm not fully convinced due to the Odd doubling effect occurring at the corner join at the base of the 2, it's visible in the close ups however they don't quite capture the "raised" doubling effect that it has to it as it does under the loop, definitely a raised part of the digit which seems to contribute to the curvature at the join. I'm certain it's not machine Strike Doubling.

A few other things about it such as the date appearing thinner than the numbers on all the Definate Large dates l have and researched, also noticed that the mint Mark on all the Large dates l own and have researched appears to be set somewhat closer to the date and also appears to sit almost directly in between the 9 and 8 where as on this coin and on the researched pics of the 2 authenticated specimens found the mint marks appear to be set lower and more towards the left of middle where the top serif of the D appears almost aligned with the tail end of the 9.
Perhaps most can agree with me on at least those noticeables otherwise l will have to deem myself as more Coin-blind than l assumed l was before posting this :/ lol

Though with all jokes and my novice presumptions aside,
What do you gents make of it ? ..any and all opinions keenly welcomed and much appreciated !! Especially those which state that it's a Small Date of course
...here's hoping..(Weight is 3.7 grams) and reverse is of better condition than obverse. Will take and upload pics of the reverse and of the coin on the scales upon any requests or should it be considered a Small Date by seasoned members here.

Cheers

Large date. Use the Search function at upper left of this page to learn how to easily distinguish these varieties.

It's LD as mentioned before, with a hit on the 2. It's very easy to get distracted by markings like that, especially on worn coins.

In regard to the MM, those were added to the dies manually, so there is some variation to the location from die to die.

Sorry you didn't hit the jackpot this time, but that doesn't mean you can't keep chasing those unicorns.
