I've never heard of or even seen the proposed penny of 1978. It was very close to the production stage as dies were ready and prepared. It is butt-ugly compared to the 1937 Maple Leaf. Glad it never became a thing!

I find it hilarious that the TTC derailed the mini penny plan though.

The blog is worth a read. Never discovered it before. Also saw the proposed designs for the 1960 $1000 banknote that never ended up being printed. And the Journey banknotes were planned to be vertical.
