VV & Cherrypickers lists this at equal rarity with the 1964-D Type C. The coin is super beat up and the only way I was able to ID it was by leaves to the left of the arrow bundles. It is a rather obscure variaty but mildly scare never the less. Not as rare as the 1971-D and 1972-D RDV variaties...

CherryPickers Guide mentions them in the prelude before the WQ section and which ones are rare. Took a while before I learned to tell them apart. The real money is with the 70-72's though.

GrapeCollects,

Your post (and comments on my earlier 1957 WQ thread) sent me searching and I found this information. It's a pretty thorough compilation of Washington quarter varieties well worth keeping.

This is my current interest....the type B, C and ...... reverses. Have found at least one of all of the B but so far no C and nothing 1965-72. It seems the 69-72 are impossible to find.

I saw that 69-d grape! Love it.

I have the 4th edition CherryPickers Guide but it does not talk of anything but type b and c. Is the 5th edition worth buying?

CPG also suspects some 1956-1964-D quarters with a Type 'B'. I've never seen this. Seems like they would have been spotted for sure by now? (On the same page with the 1964-D type 'C' last lines on the page)

Prehaps they do exist, wouldn't suprise me. But, if nobody looks, they won't be found.
