Die cracks happen a lot on the head because of the metal movement. Reminds me of a Charlie Brown cartoon. He is holding a 2 square cracker and each of three images have the tag at the bottom: "Rats!" three times. Then in the last scene, it says, "No matter how hard you try, you just can't bend a cracker." So this eventually happens to coin dies. Some dies make it to a million strike, others just crack up along the way:
