What are your thoughts on the 10th Anniversay Platinum Proof set. Will they appreciate like the Gold and Silver 10th Anniversary Sets. I've checked the US Mint website and I see no platinum proofs for sale, the screen is just blank?

Thanks

the only downfall I see would be the lack of collectors in the platinum series that would make these not perform as good as the others. There are allot of ASE collectors and thats what made the anniversary sets so popular

The way platinum is going, "appreciate" is not the right word.

And yes, I have a decent amount invested in that metal.

Being a APE collector, I don't see the platinum set appreciating as well as the AGE sets. Part of the reason is the price. I know the mint has currently suspended sales of all platinum coins due to the volatility of the market, but the last time I checked the price on the platinum anniversary set, was around $2,600 dollars. For a non collector, you are only getting 1 full ounce of platinum. When the set first came out the price was $1,900.

Its hard to compare the gold anniversary set with the platinum, because both sets have different mintages. The gold anniversary set had a mintage of 10,000 pieces, while the platinum set has a mintage of 20,000. The gold set was originally priced at $2,600 pieces and contained 3 full ounces of gold.

Another problem I have seeing this set appreciate is its current availability. When the gold set came out it sold out in 24 hours, the platinum set has been out since the end of December and has yet to sell out.

Also the gold eagles are far more popular than the platinum eagles.

In the end, I still think the Platinum Anniversary set is a beautiful set to own. I'm glad that I had the means to purchased it. To me the price means little, since it has become part of my Platinum collection.
