We have to many different quarters at the moment. More are not needed.

I just read this on a different forum.

Modern Coin News - U.S. Bill Proposes Women's History Quarter Program
By CoinWeek - April 12, 2019

On March 27, 2019, Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA13) introduced a bill to authorize the Treasury Department to strike a new multi-year quarter series of changing reverses honoring women's history and the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guaranteed a woman's right to vote in 1920. The new program would begin after the last coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters series, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site quarter representing Alabama, is released in 2021.

An earlier version (H.R. 5308) of the bill was previously introduced by Representative Lee on March 15, 2018 in the 115th Congress.

The bill (H.R. 1923), entitled the Women's History and Nineteenth Amendment Centennial Quarter Dollar Coin Program Act, would mandate the production of a maximum of five quarters per year, with each one representing a state, territory, or the District of Columbia. The first quarter would feature a culturally and historically important woman from the state of Alabama.

Proof and Uncirculated coins are allowed, as are 90% silver versions. Silver bullion products, like the popular series of America the Beautiful 5oz silver coins, are also authorized.

The first clause in the bill regarding the quarters' designs gives the Secretary of the Treasury some flexibility when it comes to the placement of inscriptions on the coin. The quarter must currently feature LIBERTY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination on the obverse and E PLURIBUS UNUM on the reverse, but the Women's' History Quarters bill allows for these legends and mottos to be flip-flopped should a design require it. The positioning of the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the obverse cannot be altered.

Otherwise, the design of each quarter must be "emblematic of the accomplishments and contributions of a prominent woman who was a resident of a State, the District of Columbia, or a territory" and also include the name of both the woman and the state, district or territory that the coin represents. Designs will be selected by the Treasury Secretary after consultation with the governor or chief executive of the territory or state, the engravers at the United States Mint, and groups and organizations that work for the inclusion of women and the improvement of women's lives. Final design candidates will be reviewed by both the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA).

The first five women to be honored must be chosen by December 31, 2020, with the selection process beginning by April 1 of that year. "Head and shoulders" bust portraits are prohibited, as are any such designs that might make the coin look like it is "two-headed". Depictions of living individuals are likewise proscribed.

After the Mint produces the last coin of this new series, the design of the obverse of the quarter will revert to the one used before the 50 State Quarters Program began in 1999. The design of the reverse will feature a portrayal of George Washington crossing the Delaware River, as featured in the memorable 1851 painting by Emanuel Leutze.

I also hate how she says we have to go back to the old design.

Make a new design and make it permanent.

The odds are this will die in committee.

If this is the wrong spot to put this please move it. I did not think it fit anywhere else.

Just my opinion,

I never liked the ATB, or State Quarters. I always prefered the high relief eagle design over the changing designs. I think the quarter program should end. I also think we need a new design for the nickel and dime. Both series are quite underwhelming and aren't popular in the high end community save ultra high grades with strike designations. When you can buy a key date for less then the cost of a meal at McDonalds, the series isn't popular enough. Even with high survival rates in high grades these are both series you can put a MS album together for less then $100. I think the new design of the JN is unattractive, and the rosie never truly was to me. I like the Presidential dollars as an idea, but not in their execution. I think that the shield cent is the least attractive of the LC designs. It has no appeal and has a flat dull look. IMO the only time LSCs actually look decent is in reverse proof. Just my thoughts and rant.

I suggest just the opposite. I think now we need the Quarters to have reverses with each Neighborhood, each high school, each college, each grade school, each sports stadium, each new car design, each river in the entire world, each lake in the entire world and most of all, the faces of each government person that started this entire Quarter mess.

I think they should do whatever they want to do. they change it up and people complain, the leave it alone and people complain, they update it and people complain.

I'd personally rather be looking for different reverses with different designs than looking at lettering of the same design under 10x magnification looking for a hint of doubling until I die of boredom, but that's me.

they aren't going to make everyone happy no matter what they do so they might as well do whatever they want to do with them instead.

Just make the reverse completely blank and be done with it.

I agree, enough with the rotating quarters. Use the half dollar for these programs if you have to, and take advantage of the larger size for more appreciable designs. Get the real people off the circulating coins and bring back the classic effigies so we can honor our ideal principles instead of our flawed history.

I like the original eagle reverse, there is too many different designs and it's just becoming too much.

We were going to get another round of ATB away, so this basically changes the parameters.

Were we? As we mentioned in this thread, the decision to do a second round should have been made by last week. That may have happened and we haven't heard yet because Congress would have to be informed by the middle of May.

Maybe?

I guess that explains why this legislation has been introduced at this time and not sooner.

The State Quarters were a nice change. But, I wish they would have stopped after that. There are just too many out there and people just don't seem to see them as special any more. Also, I liked the days when you didn't have to buy a super-sized proof or mint sent because of all the new quarter designs.
