I am new to the forum. What is this? What should I call it? Looks like part of the strike. It is raised, not indented. Very clear, fine coin.

The liberty is easy to read, although not in this photo. The photo uploading is a cumbersome process at this point for me. I chose this one because the lighting shows the 'chin goatee' well.

Die chip 'goatee'. Thank you all for the diagnosis!

I have been going through the coins given to me by my father. Most are fairly easy to identify so I can confidently list them on ebay.

This one has this die chip making the face interesting and it is a really well-preserved coin. Fine at least. I haven't tried to clean any of the coins (I've learned that much). Do any of you think it is worth having this one professionally cleaned and valued? If so, is there anyone you would recommend?

Stop saying cleaned. Just stop.

If you send it off to one of the TPGs (and this isn't worth it), they MAY ask permission (or you have it in the fine print) to CONSERVE it.

okay. thank you BStrauss3

Forgive my novice state - but all of the warnings I have read on this and other sites tell those new to coin collecting not to clean them.

So to be clear - if I try to clean a coin up, it is called 'cleaning'

If a professional does it is referred to as 'conservation'.

?

Is this enough of an irritant that I should not even mention that I did not try to clean them when I list them on ebay for sale? Because anyone worth their salt can see that for themselves from the photos?

Coin may have been cleaned, and reverse rim damage detracts.
