I received this interesting piece of NCLT today.
A Piedfort Commemorative medal of the Dutch Lion Dollar. Out of habit, the only NCLT I buy now is the Austrian bimetallic €25.00 coins. I only continue to buy them because I have every example in the series so I am continuing to buy them out of collectors-inertia. I keep checking the Royal Dutch mint because I want to pick up an example of their gold ducats( and every year for the last 3 I always notice too late to buy) back in February I saw this issue being advertised. Its a 2 oz strike( 38.7mm in diameter in 999.9 fine silver). The Royal Dutch mint calls it an Official restrike Lion Dollar. I have problems with the term restrike as the medal bears this years date and it isn't really a coin as I understand a coin to be. Even so, I couldn't resist. The maximum mintage is 400 coins. The packaging looks phenomenal but with some thought, I believe it won't have a long shelf life. The medal is in a capsule and then suspended in some plastic film within a cardboard frame( makes the thing annoyingly hard to photograph. I think in time the film will breakdown. The coin will be protected but I think purchasers will not be happy campers! It is not cheap!!
