Hey guys, getting back into collecting cents after a long hiatus. This is my second box, and the strangest find so far. 1981 S Proof uncirculated?!? Looks to be a "type 2" ( Red Book). It was just sitting there with circulated and what not. I included a newer 1918 for comparison. Can anyone help explain how this got in there...and confirm this actually a 1981 S proof type 2?

Side note: I found another odd penny in the same roll as well. Seems to be of these, 2003 D as well: http://goccf.com/t/245391 2003d

1981 S proof type 2?:

Probably many more to find, as these are being set loose since the coins from these proof sets aren't worth more than face anyway. I'm busting out 100 clad proof sets and spending the coins myself.

Yes looks like you found a proof coin-well done! Technically speaking, coins are either proofs or business strikes and business strikes can be found either in uncirculated or circulated condition. Your proof coin saw a little bit of use in commerce and therefore is considered to be "impaired".

Okay, thanks guys. Never seen a proof like that in circulation tbh. Also,Redbook is saying, since it's type 2 (I believe), that a PF-65 is $15.. thought it was pretty odd. But, I guess like you guys are saying, not too big of a deal :)

Red Book values are way to high. Also, your coin is not PF65 it is an impaired proof. Nice find nonetheless. As to value, not much of a premium if any.

Put the whole 100 proof set lot on the bay at an enticing price . Better than FV .
