This would be a real tricky topic. Who assigns the value? My pick is certainly not by any means JUNK but it still has I believe the least VALUE of any from my collection. The 1989 Zimbabwe 1 cent Although in the last month it's value has increased over 1000% it is still less than 0. 1 cent Zimbabwe = 0.0000000004 U.S. last month today it is, 1 cent Zimbabwe = 0.0004568 U.S.

I was going to say all my change as a joke. The face value of all the coins in my pocket are only worth face value so they are the cheapest coin I own. However, this post made me think. Coins that are so bad a bank might refuse them, I'd be to embarrased to try to use such a coin, coins that have been abused with acids, drills, etc. So in fact almost any coin that is useless is the bottom of the barrel so to speak. Now this could take some research.

Coinaholic, LOL...I think you're the winner! Since that Zimbabwe 1 cent is bronze, its "melt" value must be many times face. I wonder if those still circulate?

Coinaholic - nope! those go for waaay above melt on ebay! Of course it's best to sell them in bulk... if you still think they're so worthless, would you sell a lot to me for 1 cent each? ;)

Now that's what I meant by tricky, the topic says; Quote: List the least valuable coin you own. I didn't say the coin was worthless, in fact I like him better than his four cousins from 1997 in BU, he has more character! The value of the coin is just 0 on the world stage, and probably worth more in a melted condition, but I collect coins, not lumps of metal. One can't put a price tag on the history of a coin, even one this recent. It has a very good home, right here thanks, it's of value to me...

Not a coin, but I once got the ultimate $5 rag, a large size note with chunks missing and I think in pieces. As a joke, I left it as a tip. Many years later, I saw the waitress again. She asked if I'd give her a regular $5 for it, because she had tried three banks and none of them would even take it. So I bought it back and put it up on ebay as the worst existing example, with pix. IIRC, it went for 14 bucks.

Take some Zincolns and poke the tiniest possible hole thru the plating.
Soak them in plumber's (butyric) acid for a few days.
Eventually, you'll have just the plating.

biggfred - wow! I'm amazed that she remembered you after such a long time, and that she still had it to sell back to you...lol. I probably would have lost it in my drawers/boxes of junk...
as for least valuable coin...I've got a two LMCs that have a bullet hole in each...I guess some sharp shooter used them as targets at some point...found them while roll searching.

That is the solution! Plastic cents. That way the mint will not ever have to worry about making laws to prevent people from melting them for the metal!
