A friend asked me to look over his Lincoln Cent book and see if there were any varieties in his collection. The only one of significance was this one, but it's a dandy.

I ended up trading him a very nice 1914-D for it, so this one upgrades my old one. I have it at AU-58 but would love to think it would go MS on a good day. Probably my final upgrade on this one as just the cost of a higher grade coin is so expensive as hard to justify spending that kind of money to get a non-cherrypickers' guide RPM. And I really like this one.

Great RPM! Are you gonna try some verdi to see if you can get the verdigris out of the MM and date? It almost seems worth it for as nice of an RPM on as nice of a condition coin as this.

Edit: I see it at AU-58 as well. That gash in the field keeps it from MS and may knock it to AU55

The one over the eye is more noticeable.

Answer is no, not going to touch this thing with chemicals or otherwise. Too nice and too expensive for that kind of thing.

I put it at AU based on the light wear on the high points. Couple of light bag marks don't seem to be enough to knock it to 55, but I am by no means a grading expert.

It shows very strong, clear Wexler stage A die markers. I can't figure out the stages based on the VV images, but yes it's EDS.

Another great one. Just wanted to know what you use for the red background? I like it. I usually use gray. Thanks.

Very nice trade for both of you, TB.

And I agree with you about the grade and bag marks not really affecting the grade. The slight wear will come into play of course but could be attributed to album wear on a good day like you said.

Thanks so much for all the kind words and great comments! And John, the red is an easy one. I have a pad of post-it notes in a very pleasant red color that I like, and just use one of them for the background. When it gets a little scuffed from putting coins on it I just retire it and pull off another. Very simple solution to how to do a background color you like.
