Hi Everyone. So, I broke down finally and ordered for the first time ever, one box of quarters, and I specified I wanted new rolls with the bank manager, which he said he'd do his best for me to get. I've been low key coin roll hunting for decades, usually sticking between $50 and $100 at a time, and never a box, but for the last 3 weeks of hunting my banks, I only get customer wrapped rolls of quarters that are short coins or have nickels in them and I've been through 3 boxes and about 15 banks doing it like this hoping to get new rolls, but just getting stuck with customer returns which normally would be fine for the hunt, but that's not what I'm looking for right now. I'm hunting the "W" quarters and hoping this will get me them. First time ever asking a bank to order me a box and honestly, the dread of what they might tell me was far worse than the outcome, which is a promise to order a new box of them for me. Honestly I didn't want to do it, I dreaded the possible conversations and how it'd go, but I'm at my wits end getting a few rolls at a time and going to another bank and always getting customer wrapped from the tellers. In the end it went really well, he was very helpful and hopefully he actually remembers to place an order for the box of quarters for me and wasn't' just talking to talk and then blow me off about it and nothing will be there in a week from now..... How was your first time? Sweaty palms an nervous like me, as if they might report you to the FBI, or calm and cool like James Bond? Curious if it was like this for everyone their first time ever ordering a box or am I a spaz.... do you think I'll be disappointed in a week when I go to pick it up and its a box of customer wrapped quarters? hahhaaha

First time I did it the people there were very helpful and I made sure to tell them I would not bring all the coins back here. Just was honest that I wanted to search through them and for a while was getting a box weekly. I was a regular already by that time and it made the talk go much smoother. Sadly I had to stop once they did away with the coin counter machines and now everything has to be customer wrapped to hand back in again and I wasn't about to do that with a box of half dollars... but was fun while it lasted. :)

Thanks jbuck!~
Mister Kairu, Yeah I get that, experiencing it right now actually, running out of coin wrappers and not wanting to ask the bank since they will give me like 10-15 or so that won't even touch what I need to roll up again. I don't mind re-rolling them much, it's the way I've always done it, but I'm not a fan of asking for coin wrappers every moment I'm in a bank to get them for free either.
I need to buy them in bulk or something online I think, another "first" for me! Hahahaha Not sure yet if buying wrappers is cheaper than just dumping in a coinstar though. Bought in bulk probably the wrappers are the cheaper way to go unless you take the coinstar giftcard option.
I find if I re-roll as I go, one roll at a time, it doesn't seem as bad as piling them all up and sitting down to re-roll them all at once.

Find a bank that will give them for free. I build a good relation with the old batch of tellers at my bank. Since then I would order 8 boxes a week, they would order me a box of 1000 wrappers bi-weekly free of charge!

I'm the reserved type as well. I used to be very hesitant when asking tellers, especially at banks I do not frequent. I still am to an extent, but not nearly as bad as I used to be. I just keep it in the back of my head, "The worst they can do is say no." Most of the time, they are helpful and try their best to assist you, remember, they are people too! My advise is to be friendly, nice, and honest. I try to strike up conversations with them while ordering, smile, and just be all around friendly. They often ask, "What are you going to do with all of these coins?" I simply tell them, "I collect coins, and this is what I'm looking for, etc." Like noted above, when they are hesitant, assure them that you aren't going to bring them back. Good luck with the quarters!

I come from a time when one could walk into a bank as a no-account, chances are they would order boxes. It wasn't that long ago. Too bad roll hunting riff raff ruined it. I gave it all up several years ago because of the greed of banking.
Good luck on your search of the W!
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Best time to visit the branch is after lunch time..most all employees have returned and the customer rush is over. Took a 45 minute drive out to an area where a previous post mentioned a drop of new rolls might be dropped, went to 4 banks all tellers very accommodating and even let me view rolls, one went into vault to check..Picked-up 10 rolls each at 2 of the banks.

Thank you all for your stories and the gems of advice added. I'll be sure to take your advisements. That was the point I was at today, basically said to myself "make the call, worst case they say no, big deal, try a different branch if that happens". I'm a bit of a hermit nowadays I guess. Hahahaa. I try to avoid the peak hours also when I go. But like I said generally the tellers are just dumping their customer wrapped rolls on me so if the rolls were off or have slugs in them it doesn't show as their problem I guess since it's in and out again. I ask for new rolls but they all say "I just have what I have here and anything over $100 requires a transaction on your account" I guess to document it or to justify a trip to the back, I dunno why. I have one branch that just treats me horrible. so I decided to dedicate that one as my dump bank. I'll give them a reason to treat me poorly when I come in.
