Great stuff Mike !
That tag is cool .
I can't quite make out all the words .
at this point I have no Idea what it came off from , it kind of reminds me of my old bicycle tag when I was a kid but it did not have a coke or pepsi advertisement on it .

That Pepsico piece is interesting...it sure looks old! I wonder why there is a number on the back--some kind of badge?

I remember seeing something like that Pepsi badge on a metal old style vending machine where the bottles hung suspended by their necks and you would move them through the channels to the place you could pull it up and out. Neat find!

I was thinking a bicycle tag also at first. But it is too heavy like a chunk of lead. Then I thought a maybe from a key chain. I couldn't tell what it said until I cleaned it off. The back says For identification communicate with Pepsi-co Inc New Bern NC. The last line says Givin* ***ber. Can't make out the missing letters. Maybe Giving member? Some type of donation thing? I don't know.
I don't think it's a badge seems to heavy, but what do I know. I remember vaguely some type of vending machine where the bottles were hanging. But that's about it, Long time ago. I do miss the old style machines. My brother and I used to mow my grandfathers lawn. He lived right next to a gas station. They had a vending machine outside the front door of the station, the kind with the returnable glass bottles that you put the wooden case next to the machine when you where done. He would give us 50 cents to go and get a gallon of gas. We had enough to buy 2 sodas out of the machine, a piece of candy each and a gallon of gas. We would sit on the curb drink our sodas eat our candy and watch the guys fill up the cars with gas. I remember they were the coldest sodas ever. Oh the simple days.

Looks like part of the bottle opener that would be mounted on the machine or near the counter where you bought your sody pop back in the day.

On a second look, I'm thinking it could be a hinged cover--for a change tray or some other opening? The design on both sides and those connecting points suggest this object could be flipped so both sides were visible. Fun to consider what purpose it may have served.

Just thinking back to those days ,, my younger brother and myself used to take the caps from the catch for them they had cork linings and we learned to flip the caps between the thumb and finger , we could fly them quite a ways even learned to flip them over our backs .
those were the days of simple pleasures !
These things we dig out of the ground from then are a great way to bring back memories !
cool stuff !
some of the machines had little covers over the bottle opener ,,and a change return cover is also another good possibility !

Id tag for old pepsi machines. Giving number refers to number indivigually stamped on each tag. In this case either 19 W or there may be another digit in front of 19, can't tell for sure. Records would indicate where machine was located. Just in case it grew legs and ended up elsewhere.

ID tag sounds good to me till I find out otherwise. I thought bottle opener but just doesn't have that shape.
I remember flipping those caps Metalman. I could never get it to fly that far. I had a buddy that could send it a mile so it would seem. Some things I do find bring back memories. I found a little car once that dated back to the late sixties early seventies and I can remember playing with them. Nice to think about that time every now and again. Thanks everyone.

At least I learned something new. New Bern, NC is the birthplace of Pepsi.
Because you said it was heavy, we can rule out dog tag.
The fact that there is wording on both sides of the tag rules out what I was thinking; that it might be a plate that was stuck on the bottle vending machine.
SY, if you'd like, I can post the pic to the Treasure Hunting forum where they've got people that can ID that.
