Finds In Quebec

I started metal detecting last Spring and haven't had nearly as good results as others in this forum, but it's still a fun and exciting hobby. I started looking around piles of melting snow in parking lot malls, thinking there could be a concentration of coins pushed there by snow plows. Indeed, there were some coins but I was finding them more with my eyes than the metal detector!

My first trip to a beach and I found two silver rings within minutes. I thought, "this is more like it", and my luck promptly ran out. Since then I haven't found anything much of value other than coins, mostly pennies, after 3 trips to the same beach. Maybe I should find a new beach. The rings I found aren't shown in the picture below (I gave them to my "helper" at the beach). You can see a pocket knife I found in my mother's back yard with an inscription commemorating the marriage of George VI and Elizabeth (the Queen mum) on May 12, 1937. Since April I've dug up or found about $12.00 in face value; the oldest coin is a 1947 Cdn penny. Working around phone booths always produces coins, with over 50 coins dug up at one booth.

There is a big agricultural fair held every year since 1847 on about 40 acres of grass near here. I bet there would be a lot of old coins there! I'll see if I can get permission to work that field after the fair. Here are my finds to date:
