I love Large Cents !........and this is a NICE collection of them !....  As far as affixing a value to them.....You can do this easy enough for yourself.....go purchase "The 2009 Official RedBook" (over inflated prices, but it'll give you an idea). This book, found in any bookstore, will list "grades" and "prices" for each and every coin denomination ever minted by the U.S. Mint. (amongst other invaluable information). And you can use this for an "estimate" for these. Question.......do you own this set ? Or are you just thinking of purchasing it ? In lower grades....these are affordable in the $25.00 to $50.00 range, and can get much more expensive in higher grades of course. Edited by eaglefoot

Haha thanks and ya I own these took the pictures last night took forever lol and just loaded a photobucket account for them. I'm probly going to a coin store tomorow to have them looked at and I will pick up that book there if they have it. Do you see any in there hat would be worth a good amount? I dont know if I should keep them or sell them I also have a Franklin half dollars 1948-1963 collection all in good condition. Along with many other ones my grandfather collected that I would like to keep. |

DO NOT SELL THEM AT A COIN SHOP !....  Though in bad condition.....you have some "Liberty Cap" and "Draped Bust" Large Cents here which do command some very nice value !.....in better grades they are in the thousands of dollars !.....these pictured here are very badly worn, but....still, they're "key" coins to have.....(these picure Lady Liberty facing to the "right") The more "common" Large cents that you have are the "Liberty Head" and/or "Classic Head" ones...(these picture Lady Liberty facing to the "left")..but still worth around $30.00 and up depending on condition. The rarer kind is the "Flowing Hair" Large Cent..... You definately need the RedBook to look these up for yourself.....bookstores, coin shops, Hobby Lobby .....etc....will have it. (i'd try a bookstore first for the 2009 version)(or if you just want "information" versus "inflated price values" then any year edition of the RedBook will work).....but like I said....although the "prices listed" in the RedBook will be a bit high on these Large Cents, it WILL give you an idea on what you have and you can identify exactly what you have here and what each one is worth. If you want to sell them.....don't do it there !.....remember, coin shops have to make a profit on everything they "buy", so you may get "pennies on the dollar" for what they're worth. Without going back and looking at each of them, a dealer may give you $7.00 to $9.00 apiece for them (I have a dealer price guide in front of me) for many of these right now.......but elsewhere you could get $35.00 to $65.00 apiece.....or more for them ! Even right here on this coin forum......once you've reached 50 posts, you can buy, sell, or trade with other members and get a MUCH BETTER PRICE for them. But, you know, since they were your Grandpa's.....i'd keep them and then hand them down to your kids someday, and/or grandkids, and just keep em' in the family.

These coins I have right now I just got for free. All the other coins that I didn't mention exactly what they were are his and I'm keeping those. I was just gonna take the coins to the shop to get them looked at not going to sell them lol. But I will pick up that book tomorow and take a look at them. Also do you have any idea what the mint Franklin half dollars 1948=1963 would be worth? |

"In good condition" is very important with the Franklin halves. These can be found in "junk silver" bins and are common in "low grades". You have a "complete set" in "good condition" ? Can you put pictures of these up as well ? Others will wade in and give a very good "price value" to this "set".... but I'm hesitant to do so, as a general guess, without seeing it first. There's a BIG difference between MS65 and MS60 grades....So, when you say "good condition"....I'm not sure what that means exactly !... But, you can, of course, start with the "silver content" and "current silver spot price" as a "base", then go up from there depending on condition, mint marks, dates, etc.....in "higher grades" some year/mintmarks command a nice premium. |

DL20K.....If you're referring to his " Franklin halves"......yeah  ...I've got some proof sets and uncirc. sets and a few "singles"....and I like em' too !....  But, I've gotta say....the Large Cent intrigues me much much more !...

So take a look there they are all about in that condition some are better but none are worse then that.

eaglefoot, ah right I didn't specify - I do like Franklins but I am referring the coins in the gallery /the first post/  There are several 1802-03 pieces in grades which I'd afford but still probably problem-free and identifiable. That's why I state that those would be a must-buy for me. Teuk, in my biased opinion, I'd keep the best example of each date (or major variety) and offer the rest here  It's a safe way not to be scammed or get less money than a coin is actually worth which can happen using auctions.

I'm always excited to see them at auctions, etc....

Teuk....Also.....with the Large Cents..... Could you post up some better "close up" pics of the "Liberty Cap" and "Drapped Bust" Large Cent coins ? Some of these pics are really too "far away" to get a "detailed view" of them. And the "grade & value" could be better determined as well.........Plus......these are just SWEEEEEET ! And we're salivating over them !....  ..... ..  ....
