The only times I slow down on my collecting is when I can't find anything, or when I'm broke. And gas doesn't bother me that much at 60 mpg. And that is a big drop for me. Until three years ago I as getting 100 mpg.

Over here on the 'Dark Side' I step up collecting as the sun is smaller, nights are longer (and colder) and yes the price of petrol over here is high as well ($1.45 a litre or or approx. $7.50 a gallon) which puts a damper on spending somewhat. regards

I've actually stepped up my spending this summer. This is due to the extra money that I no longer pay to my oldest son's preschool. Of course when the fall comes my middle son will start preschool and that money will be gone again.

Anytime I'm in the country I'm at the coin shop. Most noteably during the summer since its the time I have been here the most the past few years.

Time is my enemy when it comes to hobbies. I suspect that I started collecting before most people here (in the early '50's - but that most of you have spent more time with your coin-related activities than I have over the years. I pretty much came to a dead stop with most hobbies when I went to college but eased back into coins in the late '70's. Then I moved to CA in '82 and didn't really restart until the summer of '06 when I discovered Roman cleaners and started looking for fillers for the holes in my albums. From September through May I'm pretty much tied up with teaching, so the only real hobby activity that I've indulged in has been to publish a radio club magazine (for over 20 years now). Last summer was not good for me - I lost my mother - but this summer I went back to coin collecting with a vengeance, along with other activities, including having a new garage/workshop built in the back yard. An unexpected job change this year from classroom teaching to supervision has now left me with time after school to fill, so I expect to continue filling the holes in the Whitmans and Danscos this fall.

Basically yes to slacking off. Not only with coins but with everything lately. I started collecting coins in the early 1940's and basically never stopped. However, in the Summer I get lazy due to just can't stand the heat and humidity so kind of slow down or stop everything for a while. I have several old cars and they too suffer this time of the year with inactivity. Example is my 67 Imperial that just turned 24,000 miles. I normally go to about 2 to 4 coin shows a month but only went to about 3 in the last 3 months. Same with other shows such as gun, knife, computer, etc shows. First time no garden either. Wonder if it's old age.

I slacked off big time on coins and set building. Reason I started an new job as an Texas Correctional officer working on Death row in the wild prison world. So much training and book work to get into law enforcement. Its nuts to deal some of worst convicts in the state of texas like I been doing in last 3 monlths.I deal with so much stuff in not funny anymore.
My roll searching stoped with my set building. Since all my law book work is done. I can start playing with coins again. Like the last two days I bought some killer deals on proof pennys to finish my sets aslong with searching nickel boxs again to take my mind off my job. I need to go buy serval boxs of Halfs or nickels to play with becides spending all time learning about law enforcement stuff. Have Fun

Hiya Chevy! Long time, no hear!
For me, buying goes in huge cycles. I can go months without buying, but I hardly ever stop reading, surfing, trolling e-bay, etc. Just may not contribute for several weeks, but I'm lurking!
And of course, going through pocket change and the occasional roll is all the time. I don't think I'll ever stop doing that even if I stop "collecting" - whatever that means!
