Sorry for the noob-like question, but I was wondering if any of you Australian coin collectors can point me to some sites where I can read up on pre-decimal Aussie coinage. I've been learning quite a bit here, but everything is scattered...I'd like to read up on the history and then about the each of the denominations, if there is a site with this kind of info. Thanks!
G'day, the following specializes in pre-decimal pennies, but contains general information as well: http://triton.vg/ozcoins.html And, in this very CCF of ours, you'll find a "sticky" at the top of the Australian Pre-Decimal Coin Forum. The last pre-decimals were issued in 1964. Decimal currency began to circulate on 14 Feb 1966. Peter in Oz
Try this site as well. Has pretty well everything there. Also have a look around here. This site hasn't been updated in awhile and it's a private collection, well worth the look though.
I have to agree with Gnome. Until I got my hands on copies of Renniks and MacDonald's Australian coin and currency catalogs, the https://www.australianstamp.com website was my go-to for everything Australian related. I only wish the website was still updated and cared for, as it seems the business that keeps it has leaned toward stamps more than coins.
I think your site is great and I love the simple logical layout. I'm a new collector and found your site chock full of very useful information and pictures particularly around the individual history and vagaries of Australian pre decimal coin production.
