I've started searching rolls the last few days, so far have gone through about 50 bucks worth of nickels and have found 17 1941's. Obviously I feel there must be something going on here, it can't just be luck. Is there some kind of biased for collectors to not keep the '41's?

Nothing wrong with the '41, there were just lots of them made, and you might also just be having very strange luck, because 17 of them in $50 is ridiculous.

The 1941 plain had an incredibly high mintage (203,265,000) comparitively to any other year until '43P but then,.....those two years are the only ones with that many and they did not mint 200,000,000 Million + again until 1961D.

It is a high mintage year. Only the 1943-P had more minted in the 1940's; and for the years before 1964, it has the fifth highest mintage:

1962-D 280,195,720
1963-D 276,829,460
1943-P 271,165,000
1961-D 229,342,760
1941 203,265,000

(edit to correct the typo Eaglefoot caught!)

Fixed! Thanks!

Not sure how I got that wrong, seeing as how the 'P' and 'S' keys are about as far apart as they can get!

You guys are having way too much fun on here. I thought collecting was a bunch of old grumpy men sitting around arguing about how much there buffalo is worth and how many gallons of milk they could buy with it back then....hehehe. Kidding of course... "You're only as old as you feel" and "We all have growing to do"...I know I do. ;)

Yeah.....it's all about "the people" here on CCF. Having a sense of humor and not being "serious" all of the time. There isn't a better place to come for answers to your questions about anything in the "coin realm" either !!
Information is golden, (and there are many coin forums for that) but keeping this forum fun and interesting and also making good friends is what'll keep you here on this one!.....
Having some of the most knowledgeable coin people in the country/world right here on CCF isn't bad as well !!
