The text reads: "The object of today's auction is 1 dollar portraying Benjamin Franklin from 1974." Imagine that through the past 30+ years they've been hiding the truth from us - how many of us knew it was Franklin? Also, Jbuck, what's your opinion on this newly-revealed 'fact'? Seeing as how my Franklin half dollars are second to my Eisenhower dollars, I cannot be too upset! It is an honest mistake I suppose. I would not think that too many Americans would be able to differentiate Lech Walesa from Lech Kaczynski!

Lech Walesa was pictured on a stamp (1983) and may someday in the distant future be portrayed on a coin.. The other one will never make it, unless he makes his own 'money'. There are many interesting descriptions of US coins here. This one may be forgiven but when someone states that the silver eagle $1 has the Statue of Liberty on the reverse..

That does it, I am heading over there with some learning materials! I meant to say earlier as well, that I would not be at all surprised if an American made the same error (regarding the Ike). They do bits on TV where they ask "people on the street" the questions they think everyone should know the answer to. Sad, really.

Quote: 1 dollar portraying Benjamin Franklin from 1974. (y)Ikes! A little off, but it's an easy mistake. Quote: I would not think that too many Americans would be able to differentiate Lech Walesa from Lech Kaczynski! Or John Kaczynski--unfortunate, but true!
