Congrats on completing your set! As for the 2 holes, have you considered just filling them with similar coins from those years? The dates would match and the album would have the appearance of being complete. Just a thought.

I am sure he has a Dansco Album, not a Dansco Folder.

I realize that the auction title says folder, but the actual item has album written on it. No where near my field, so I stand to be corrected. Here's a picture of what is in the link I provided. Image: dansco.jpg17.11 KB

IMHO, it is a folder, even though Dansco labeled it an Album; I can see the coin openings through the cover. The buyer called it a folder in the title and description; he may be someone that knows the difference. But you are right, I have not seen it in person either, so more evidence or feedback is needed. I also think that one pre-dates the creation of what we call albums today; it might be worth having just for nostalgic reasons!

Interesting........those are the classifications I would use too, between a folder and an album, but I guess back then they didn't apparantly.....hmmmm

I received an old Whitman folder of Buffalos with the coin collection my Mother left me about four years ago. It was around half full with only one semi-key. I think the design on the Buffalo nickel, both sides of the coin, are classics. I love this nickel! I decided to try and complete the set thinking that Buffalo nickels couldn't cost all that much. Heck I used to get them in change back in the fifties and sixties. As it turns out they were pretty expensive in F-12 or better and some of the keys like 1931-S, 1924 and 26-D, 1918-S&D, 1921-S, 1914-D and the 1913-D&S Type 2 were VERY expensive in a decent circulated grade. I have well over a thousand dollars invested in completing the set. I used ebay where auction action on non-acid dipped buffalos was fierce, my local coin store bid board, and retailers like H. Berk. I think it was a pretty good challenge. I like the suggestion to fill the two error coin holes in my Dansco with real Buffalos. I will use a real 1918 or 1917 for the over date and a 1937-D for the three legged. I may also paint over the labels for these holes and make the album look complete. It will be about three weeks and I promise that I will take pictures of the whole album, obverses and reverses and post it. I really appreciate all the suggestions and the nice words of congratulations.

I found an old Capital plastics buffalo set holder that did not have the over-date and 3-leg in it. The folders and albums all seem to have the extra holes. I like the Capital holder presentation better anyway.
Congratulations on finishing the set. Gary

I like your chosen idea better than my suggestion of using dateless Nickels. I would not paint over the label since that could go wrong. Maybe you can colour match a vinyl sticker to trim and cover those two labels?

Okie
As a fellow Buffalo hunter, congratulations on the full set. I am about 15 short myself -- as you might expect, it's the harder S's and D's that I am still working on. I don't have the 18/17-D or the Three Legger yet, but I figure I will likely go after those last although I appreciate your purist view on those coins. How long did it take you?

Took about two and a half years Groganking with the head start I had from my Mother. Nothing wrong with going after the 18/17 and the three legged if you want them. We all get to collect what we want. Be cautious of fakes on the three leg. I recommend a slabbed coin for both of these coins. I just won auctions on ebay for a 1918 and a 1937-D to plug those error holes. If they are delivered next week, along with my 1913-S Ty II, I will bring this album home and photograph it and post. Happy Labor Day!
