I have this item, reasonably sure it's gold, 18grams. don't know how old or what it is - thought it was a coin at first but then saw the back of it with the hole. any ideas please.

Hello and welcome.

You are correct in that it's not a coin. The hole ont he back makes me think it was orignally some kind of button, ar attached there to some larger object like a piece of furniture.

Also, it doesn't look solid gold to me - gold doesn't normally stain like that.
