Evidently this can happen if you heat up a clad coin, such as with a torch. Since it is just damage whatever the source, you can safely spend this coin if you want. spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 05/24/2019 03:30 am It is definitely damage and caused by heat, but I think it was electricity supplying the heat here. The small "hole" on the reverse was where contact was initiated and flow started. The obverse ballooned outward with the flow of electricity/heat.
