US Grading CDN Coins MS & PL On Same Label/Holder (Photos & Questions)

TaeKenDo Pillar of the Community Canada 737 Posts	Posted 05/23/2019 7:35 pm Can anyone tell me why Cdn coins in the US are sometimes graded both MS & PL with the MS having a number i.e MS65 and then PL written somewhere else on the same holder label and which takes precedent. (I apologize for the crappy pics). In the photos of the 4 coins side by side, I was wondering if any are mis-attributed such as being labelled MS when it`s a PL or vice-versa. Coin-Flipper Pillar of the Community Canada 605 Posts	Posted 05/23/2019 8:07 pm The MS coin may have a higher-than-normal degree of reflectivity on the field finishes which is a reminiscent of a Proof Like finish. NGC uses the PL or DPL also after an MS grade if applicable. Usually you see it a lot on Morgan dollars. Mint State with proof like finishes. -Once a coin is out of the PL package and enters circulation mode maybe? Report this Post to the Staff

hadleydog Pillar of the Community Canada 1267 Posts	Posted 06/05/2019 12:58 am The MS stands for mint state, which means uncirculated. The PL designation refers to the depth of the mirrors. PL must be at least 2" depth of reflectivity, DMPL or deep mirror proof like require a minimum of 6". Report this Post to the Staff
