A month ago levelsofmadnes posted a Block Island quarter they found that looked to have a minor DDR similar to the numerous other ATB Quarter DDRs we have seen in the past couple of years. http://goccf.com/t/345132 However, when they sent it to James Wiles, he said it was not a DDR but a contact mark AND Machine Doubling. I found the results annoying, but I did not see the coin in-person so I was hesitant to say I disagreed with Wiles' opinion.

But now I confidently say I disagree. Today I found myself a Block Island quarter with slightly stronger doubling that clearly is not MD or a contact mark. The feather has not decreased in size, die movement this large would have greatly affected the original feather and would not be as isolated. And I see no evidence of damage, the surface of the doubled feather is smooth and rounded.

I listed it today as CRDR-001: http://crdievarieties.com/doku.php?...ri25ccrdr001

Looks legit to me! Great pick! It also helps shore up the other one's case as well now!

Looks like a fine DDR to me as well. Been getting a lot of things back from Dr. Wiles with few getting listings. This one seems a lot stronger than a number of listed DDRs but got the dreaded " DDR is too minor to list"

That 1928-D DDR being labelled "too minor" is surprising. I don't even need a closeup of the coin and I can see the doubling.

Awesome find and discovery Tanman!

Tropicalbats, I would stop sending the Doubled Dies that James Wiles says are "too minor to list" and send them to Tanner Scott instead for attribution. Attributions are free. Only have to pay return postage.
