Hello all have a 1982-D quarter need help with it someone said it was an environmental damage has any one ever come across one of these. If you look inside the number 8 it has a s and appears to be a part of a letter or 1

I agree. It is not a good thing for a coin. Not a keeper. This year has the enlarged master hub. That is why the devices are on the rim of the coin. (Look above Liberty also)

@Mdbeck22, first welcome to CCF. Second, assuming that you are talking about that green color around the date, I'm not sure that it is environmental damage specifically, but this coin did not leave the mint with that stuff on it.

Spendable. Not an error. Just damage that happened on your coin, after it left the U.S. Mint.

Ah ok thanks for pointing that out @mdb22. I highly doubt that this is an overdate, but you could try to soak this coin in acetone to remove the green stuff. I suspect that this "1" will disappear too. Please post an after pic though to confirm. Thx!
