A friend of mine Gave me some proof sets yesterday. One of the set's has toning. All 5 are toned. The clad coins all have a Blue Green tone NICE color but they don't photo well.

That is a well known rainbow toned cent for that year. I like them. Check the bay for going values.

John1: WOW some of the prices on the toning coin.? Mine Is still in the mint set unopened. The other coins also have the blue green toning. If I was to try and sell it would it be better to sell the set or break them out?

I don't really know. I think if I owned it I would leave it in the set. You might sell for more profit if you sold them individually.

Did a bit more thinking,I think if you left it in the set a buyer would know it is natural toning...NT. If you took out the cent and sold it raw,the buyer would not know if it was NT or AT...artificial toning. The money is in the cent, not the rest of the coins,IMHO.If you sent the cent in to be slabbed, the TPG would know it was NT and being in a slab the buyer would know it was NT also.

Thanks John1 for you advice. The coins look A lot finer then the pic is showing due to the glare of the case. It has a Shiny gold look in the areas there is no toning. NO scratches its the case showing some. I Will keep it in the holder. Will PCGS grade it in the Mint Holder or will they break it out?

Personally, I would break it out, rinse with acetone and put it into an Airtite. This particular issue is well known for its rainbow toning. I've owned quite a few over the years, this is my current one.

BadThad: Why would you clean it with Acetone?

It's not cleaning, it will simply remove any surface debris prior to proper storage (Airtite holder). If you leave the coins in that holder, they will continue to tone to the point where it is terminal (and undesirable).

I regret selling this 66, IMO, it's more attractive than my 67:
