Hi. I have just acquired a 1905 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. The date looks as if it has been repunched. Your feedback would be a greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The coin is a fake...send it back from whence it came. Don't waste time imagining why it might be genuine. It isn't . If you paid for it, get your money back. If the dealer was an ANA member, they have to give you your money back. If it was ebay...your probably stuck but then let us know who sold it to you so we can avoid them in the future.

Thanks,
Bill

Sigh. I think I see gold-tone plating worn off the base metal.
Sorry you found out the hard way.

It looks really similar to what a dug large cent with lots of corrosion would look like. Without a doubt cast fake.

Gee Guys. Thanks for the help. I knew it, it was too good to be true. He is a local dealer (not an ANA member)where I get some of my coins sometimes. He promised a refund should I find anything wrong with the coin!. Lets turn this learning experience to our advantage - let all those who have never seen a genuine Liberty Head Qtr Eagle that this sort of a coin is fake!
Much obliged guys.

here is an original qtr. eagle (notice how mushy the details are on the coin you have compared to this one) If this is a local dealer that you say you deal with some times I would question every other coin you have gotten from this individual also. I would also avoid this dealer in the future, because if he didn't know that coin was fake he doesn't need to be dealing in coins, and if he did know it was fake and sold it as original that is just a bad person all around and either way its someone I don't think I would want to deal with
