Hey all, Tonight I was following in Copper Nickel Daddy's footsteps and working on my Jefferson nickel set from circulation. I pulled a few I needed for my set, a nice 1959 - P, but this 1938 D takes the cake for nicest coin. I really don't think I could have bought a better one. Here it is: The best part of course is that it only cost me 5 CENTS! There is a blotch of green goo o nthe reverse above the Monticello, left hand side, which I obviously won't remove. To me this is a pretty good coin for being 70 years old and a mintage of 5.4 MM, and I needed it for my set to boot!! Hope you are all well! Happy Hunting!

Nice find! Quote: There is a blotch of green goo o nthe reverse above the Monticello, left hand side, which I obviously won't remove. The green goo bothers me. I am not sure what, if anything, I would do about it; so it might be best that you do leave it alone. Regardless, for $0.05, you cannot go wrong!

The green goo is not verdigris, if that is what you are thinking. It has more of the texture of dried bubble gum.

Very nice...that one looks like it's been kept safe for 70 years! You could try a soak in acetone (pure stuff) and see if that gummy material loosens--anyone else, does that sound like a good idea?

Wow, Sheesh! I would trade the thrill of finding many 90% halves in order to have the chance to find that nickel! Congratulations!

Quote: .......I had the sciccors and a comb used on me !... I had that solution used as well. What, you actually thought I only got gum in my hair once when I was a kid? Quote: I shave my head baby butt bald now !.......have for about a year now !..... The commonalities between us just get spookier and spookier! I do not go "baby bottom smooth" just yet, but in the summer, I use the clippers without the guard on them.
