It's not much to look at, but a fun find regardless. After power washing the deck and house, this was found in a little pile of crud on the concrete steps. It's an 1882-O Morgan there. House was built in 1948. I'm going to clean the heck out of it, then I suppose I need to crawl under the deck and make sure there's not another 500 of them.

That is a cool find! My house was built in the 40's but I have been all thur/around my property with a metal detector and found nothing but modern coins. My property was settled in the land run through so maybe one day I will find something like that.

If you were able to find that without a metal detector, imagine what you could find with a metal detector. There are definitely 500 more under there waiting to be found.

OneBowl: We all live in hope! As an executor to an uncle's estate, I cleaned up his house prior to selling. I found about $2,000 in mint fresh crisp $1 and $2 banknotes and MS coins (all common), all ++20 years old. The $1 and $2 denomination notes had long since been withdrawn from circulation at the time of their discovery. I was honest. The cash that I found was integrated into his estate. I was one of about 20 beneficiaries.

All I ever found in mine was a few bills, about thirty dollars worth, taped behind the door moulding between two rooms. The old-timers hid money in the strangest of places.

Nice find of the Morgan dollar around the house. Maybe you should send it in to be graded. If it comes back as P01 you might find a buyer who is working on a lowball set. The best thing that I found around my house was an old glass milk bottle when I dug out my bushes. At least it was in one piece and it cleaned up pretty nice.
