My favorite coin. 1953-S, some minor flaws, but still the best.

Welcome aboard, sublime118!

It would be easier to grade old baldy with full coin shots, but I'll give it a go. 53-s's normally come with mushy strikes, that needs to be taken into consideration.......what looks like rub/wear on the reverse by the bell lines may be a result of that (I can't tell from the pics). It's either very lightly circulated, or in the ms64 range. No fbl.

I did the research on this coin. 53-S was a horrible year for franklin strikes. If it was wear on the bell line, would it have scratches on it? Here are some more pics:

Not necessarily. Slight wear could present itself as a lack of luster on the high points, or change in the patina (a nice thick skin everywhere but the high points) or a slight lack in detail.......which can also be caused by a weak strike.

Sublime, for a 1953-s, it's a very nice coin.

If it wouldn't cost half a collection to have it graded, I would. But it might be body bagged for the large scratch next to the top of the bell. I'm just gonna keep it in the airtite and hold on to it for about 50 years and see what happens

Ouch......I didn't see that.

What else do you collect, sublime?

Being new to the hobby, I haven't collected much. Proofs of all kinds, ASE's, Washington quarters, wheat cents, silver certificates, and definately Franklins. My big coin purchase this year is gonna be a franklin proof. I'm waiting for the right coin at the right price.
