I know the 1893-S is King and the 1889-CC is desirable, but this coin is very elusive in higher grades. Once out of the AU levels, this coin skyrockets. What are your thoughts? I have always liked this Morgan.

If you're looking for a coin that skyrockets just look at the 1892-S Morgan. -PP

Both start off low in G-VG and shoots up in AU+, suggesting a coin with relatively high mintage but not many were preserved in pristine condition. Wouldn't be a bad pick-up in higher grades.

The 84-s is a solid coin, but does not have the universal interest of the 93-s or just about anything from the CC mint. The old 'population and demand' balance. Still, a very desirable coin in ms condition.

You should be able to pick up an XF40 for about $50, AU50 around $260, MS60 just over $5000.

According to John Highfill's Silver Dollar Book the '84S's are known for the vast amount of sliders out there. Seems they were termed as two beer coins, in circulation just long enough to buy two beers and then returned to the mint. After reading that I gave up on finding anything better than an AU. It's one of the harder coins to find in MS and very pricey when you see one. For an older book,it has some interesting info in it.

It is also my conviction that TPG services look very hard at the borderline AU/MS 1884-S since the price difference is so great a %.

And I thought it meant that after two beers, it appeared to go from AU to MS!
