@fioti, thanks for posting this. While that specific site seemed a bit alarmist, we did also discuss this previously a little bit: http://goccf.com/t/284270

My understanding is that some companies were producing fraudulent "coins" to redeem under the program.

I was under the impression that after their initial suspension of the program that they had reinstated it. Maybe they had to suspend it a second time.

I search the Mint press releases and I was right. The suspended the program the first time back in 2015 because of the huge number of fakes being sent in for "redemption". The in a press release dated Jan 23, 2018 they reinstated the redemption program. Now in May of this year they have suspended it again. So far no explanation from the mint as to why the program was suspended this time.

See this is information that should have been included in the article. Not a great article but it's a fun subject - I don't remember where/when hearing the rumor that each year more US "coinage" was being returned from China for redemption under this program than the annual mintage figure.

It does make you wonder whether or not they started receiving a bunch of fakes again once they restarted the program.
