Read my post at http://goccf.com/t/349617. Here are the three 25 pesetas coins they weigh 8g each exactly. The dark stuff on them scratches off with my finger nail but I am leaving them alone. txabs Valued Member Spain 125 Posts	Posted 06/23/2019 05:14 am In Spain, despite coining its coins according to the standards of the Latin Monetary Union, did not respect the standards of gold coins. The LMU minted pieces of 20 units and 6.45g of .900 gold. 25 pesetas are 8.06g of .900 gold In those years, British and the French governemst negotiated the entry of the United Kingdom into the Union, but they had problems because the British did not want to devalue the gold sovereign. These coins of 25 pesetas are equivalent to a gold sovereign (7.25g of fine gold 25 pesetas vs 7.32g fine gold sovereign). Later, after British rejected their entry, Spains started to mint 20 pesetas 6.45g coins. They are easy to find on high grades. They almost did not circulate. There also was 25 pesetas banknotes, and people is not stupid, the used the gold coins to keep their savings instead of paying. Is not important to make out the digints on stars. These coins have bullion value below MS, and I guess their sentimental value is higher than monetary value. Regards! Report this Post to the Staff
