This coin seems to have a noticeable thickening and doubling on the 2 and to a lesser extent the 7.

No. I got it from a friend who just had it there but have no interest in coin collection.

Ahh gottcha, that might be some doubling on the bottom of the 2, the 7 looks normal to me.

The 2 shows doubling of some type, but can't tell which, because of poor picture quality.

I looked again and it looks like slight Machine Doubling.

I would lean more towards coin damage. It is unusual that just one device on the outside area of the coin would be affected from MD. But as mentioned, the overall size of the devices are normal sized, so it would not be a doubled die.
