Hi I am new on this site. I came here because it seems to be very helpful to others. I have a friend who doesn't collect coins but he found a 1951 nickel and gave it to me. I want to know if it is chrome plated or not. For all I know it may just be some type of polish giving its color. Ill try to put it next to another nickel for you to compare. Thanks.

Yes it's chrome plated.
All 1951 nickels with the beaver are chrome plated.

All 1944-45-51 beaver-52-53-54 "nickels" were SUPPOSED to be chrome plated. Some were missed. The chrome plated ones have a bluish tint when compared to the normal nickel nickels.

Is there a way to tell the missing chrome coins from a chrome coin?
Thanks Gary
