1923 S DDO 001 Buffalo Nickel

Even though Variety Vista and Wexler don't mention die markers, there are two possible markers.

The first is a "Y" shaped cluster of die scratches above the "2" in the date. The VV photo shows these scratches. The second is a horizontal cluster of three very weak die scratches through the "RTY" of LIBERTY. Would you be able to capture clearer closeups of those two areas on your coin?

I think you have it, but those scratches might be the clincher on a well circulated coin.

As usual a well circulated coin though.

Thanks FortCollins for the research. Looked at over 2500 nickels trying to put a 69 coin series set together in VG8 average. Very challenging, more difficult than I first considered. I ran into many cleaned, lamination tears, environmental damage, scratched, or just down right ugly nickels. Of note to myself was the more than occasional brick and mortar store offering these at straight grade prices. I ended up buying (I think) one cleaned 1919 D out of them all. Although rudimentary I applied what I learned putting my Lincoln and Walker sets together this was a guide but learned quickly its dog eat dog on Buffaloes and that I was bound to err. I did.However had the thrill of the hunt at a much higher level than putting together the Walkers. To me Buffaloes are the wild west, still many great bargains out there without the costly margins When
mistakes are made. My total cost was $1,327.00 for the series non error. I insisted on certified key and semi-key dates as not only insurance but as a guide for my next set -starting shortly in VF minimum. Did notice some peculiar coins that are supposed to be cheap and readily available. They weren't. 2 that come to mind without my notes were the 1921 P and 1918 P both were difficult to locate with full dates and decent strike in VG8 to Fine , I ended up paying a premium over book for them. I am captivated by this series.
