1983 P Nickel Reverse Missing Letters

As you can see, there are missing letters in Monticello and the word cents is faded. Is it wear or was it struck like this? Thanks &

It was Struck Through Grease partially.

Yes looks to have been weakly struck, perhaps as a result of being struck through a die partly filled with grease. Nice find.

Thanks! I'm a little surprised at the coins I found my first time coin roll hunting. Nickels were particularly good.
