Found this 2017 P Lincoln tonight with bubbles on the tails. How could that have happened?

Those are called Plating Bubbles. It's a very common error on the Copper plated Zinc planchets cents. It happens when there's dust or debris on the planchets. This doesn't carry any premium. http://www.error-ref.com/blisteredplating/

I guess the bubbles don't occur until after the strike, as no known unstruck planchets have bubbles.

Maybe it involves the heat produced during striking? I don't know.
