1790 Coin With Georgivs II Instead Of III?

Evasions were produced by people who wanted to produce counterfeit coins, but weren't so keen on the punishment if they were caught (being either death by hanging, or deportation to Australia, depending on the seriousness of the offence). So they placed deliberate errors on their counterfeits, in the hope that if they were found out and arrested, they could persuade the judge that they weren't really counterfeit coins because they had a different design. The maker of your "coin", for example, might have tried to argue that he was just making medals commemorating the long-dead king George II, and it wasn't his fault that illiterate people were taking them and spending them as money. Such excuses rarely saved a counterfeiter from the gallows, or the one-way ticket to Botany Bay.
